Hamilton Receives Champagne Moment Award

British Touring Car Championship youngster Matt Hamilton was at Silverstone last weekend to pick up his HiQ ‘Champagne Moment’ award which he won with his brilliant drive at Brands Hatch back in May. Hamilton took his BTC-spec Honda Civic to ninth place in race two and with it his first points in the BTCC of his career.

The ‘Champagne Moment’ is awarded to the driver who the fans think performed best over the weekend with a online vote held on the HiQ website. Matt Hamilton won the vote with 27% of the fans thinking that his drive from 12th up to 9th in horrendous conditions was worthy of the award.

Since Brands Hatch Matt has only been able to show us his talent on one occasion after pulling out of the series after Oulton Park but he’s desperate to get back out on the track.

Matt came along to the BTCC Crazy Tweet-up at Silverstone where he said, “It’s frustrating coming to the track and not being able to race. I just want to be out there.”

Matt also commented on the car choice for 2011 if he was to be able to secure a deal. “With all the development work that Thompson has been doing in the Toyota Avensis I think that would be a good road to go down but to buy a NGTC car brand new would take a lot of our funding. It may be better to buy one of the cars from the current teams who are upgrading to NGTC.”
