Codemasters Announces GRID Autosport: ToCA “Descendant” Featuring Touring Cars
Codemasters have announced their next racing title, GRID Autosport. The Birmingham-based game company says it’s the “descendant” of its hugely popular ToCA Touring Cars series from the late nineties and early noughties. The game will features 22 circuits with more than 100 routes, and will feature cars from five disciplines including touring cars.
It’s unclear what specification these touring cars are based on, but screenshots show the presence of touring car specification Ford Focuses, BMWs and a Chevrolet Cruze. Motorbase Performance have confirmed that they worked with Codemasters on the game, presumably on the Focus.
BTCC champion Matt Neal initially sparked speculation earlier this year when he tweeted that he’d visited Codemasters to advise them on their next two racing games.
In addition to touring cars, there’s single seaters, endurance racing, street racing and drifting to contend with. Tracks currently announced include Hockenheim, Sepang, Jarama and Yas Marina. No UK circuits have been announced yet.
Codemasters launched GRID 2 last year, but many hardcore racing fans were unhappy with the arcade-style handling featured in the game and its focus on street racing over real race tracks. Codemasters says they’ve gone back to their roots for Autosport, and have taken aboard the feedback from fans, racing drivers and even the staff of Autosport magazine.
The game will be released on June 27th 2014 on PC, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. More information on the game can be found on the Codemasters Blog.
