Red Phoenix Racing Announce Volvo S60 Intentions
The 2014 Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship could well see another new team and car enter, as Red Phoenix Racing set about running a Volvo S60.
Set to be run to the NGTC regulations, Red Phoenix Racing are in the early stages of putting together the Swedish machine ahead of their first foray in the BTCC.
With the championship in a healthy state, the West Yorkshire squad are set to compete for the final few spots on the grid ahead of 2014 – which is set to be at maximum capacity. Many have stated already that the entry list for next year is already full and if so the Volvo team are happy to use 2014 as a development season ahead of their debut in 2015.
A source in the team told BTCC Crazy: “We are not promising the earth, our feet are firmly on the ground. We know what is required to do this and will take our time to do it .
“If it requires that we have to wait until 2015 then we will use 2014 as a test and build year and wait to enter properly in 2015 so as not to rush and under perform.
“We have some good people with a lot of experience in World Rally , BTCC and WTCC . Above all we want to win , but we all want to do it as a last challenge as some of us are getting on a bit!”
It was in 1999 that a Volvo was last run in the championship, by TWR, with Rickard Rydell and Vincent Radermecker behind the wheel. Rydell in fact won the championship in 1998 in the Volvo S40.
More news is believed to be released surrounding the project before Christmas along with the motorsport outfit behind it all as well.
